We’re all looking for ways to live at little expense to the environment. This is why so much thought is being put into green building—flooring certainly included. Whereas it may not be the most economical choice to drop a bunch of money on stone floors, it is certainly one option to consider—particularly for business facilities. Here are some great flooring options that are eco-friendly and great for all of your building needs.

Stone: Why stone? Well, because stone is really durable. Marble floors will last a lifetime, are incredibly durable. The less frequent you have to replace your flooring, the less crap will be in the landfills. It can also be polished for a sophisticated look that involves no chemicals. A shiny floor also means better lighting efficiency—good stuff for larger facilities trying to minimize the electric bill and save some green.

Bamboo: Because it looks so similar to hardwood flooring, bamboo is an incredibly popular choice. It is sustainable, however, precisely because it is not wood. It is actually a grass, which means it grows much, much quicker than a tree would—replenishing itself at a rate that is of little harm to the environment.

EnviroMODE: You’re probably thinking “what in the world is this?” I’ll tell you what it is: so freaking cool. EnviroMODE is a terrazzo made out of porcelain from recycled toilets, sinks, and tubs. I mean really, that’s cool. It looks incredibly unique and is made of mostly post-consumer materials. You get the bone-colored porcelain, but can pick the resin color. How sweet.

Always remember that recycled is best. If you rip up that old stone floor, make sure to reuse those stone remnants to save materials from ending up in the landfills!
